April 25, 2015 - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Dauch Indoor Stadium & Ben Roethlisberger Field1601 viewsWith the skies opening up over Yager Stadium, Miami fans were quickly introduced to the Dauch Indoor Sports Center on Saturday, April 25th.
The RedHawk faithful gathered inside the newest jewel of Miami Athletics for the DISC Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, which featured speeches from Director of Athletics David Sayler, President Dr. David Hodge, Miami alum and Pittsburgh Steelers star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Miami alum and Super Bowl winning Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, Miami alum and lead DISC contributor David Dauch, Miami soccer captain Haley Walter and Miami football defensive back Heath Harding. Those speakers eventually gave way to the official ribbon cutting for the facility before transitioning to the football team’s spring scrimmage.
As the downpour continued outside, fans surrounded the RedHawks as they went through their various drills on Ben Roethlisberger Field. The 14-period scrimmage included several 11-on-11 sessions that gave the MU faithful a promising glimpse into next fall....

May 6, 2012 - Graduation Day 2728 viewsIt’s been a big offseason for Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. First he graduated from Miami University, and now he has been selected as one of six individuals to be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame later this year.
Roethlisberger, who played at Miami from 2001-03, holds all of the school’s major passing records, including passing for 200 yards or more in all 14 games in 2003, also an NCAA record for most games in a season passing for 200 yards or more and consecutive 200 yards plus passing games.
What makes the induction really special for Roethlisberger is he is going in the same year as his former coach, the late Terry Hoeppner (photo above). Hoeppner, who died of brain cancer in June, 2007, spent 19 seasons at Miami, and was the head coach during Roethlisberger’s time at the school. Miami had a winning season each of Hoeppner’s six years as the school’s head coach (1999-2004).
“That was the biggest thing for me,†said Roethlisberger of being inducted with Hoeppner. “It’s an honor to go into the Hall of Fame, but to go in with Coach Hoeppner kind of made me tear up a bit and gave me goose bumps. To me that means more than going in myself. It will be an emotional day.â€
February 9, 2013 - Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Weekend2751 views“When they called me about this and said you’re going in with him [Hoeppner], it’s the only way I would have ever wanted it,†Roethlisberger said. “The only thing that would have been better is if he were here. I know he is here in spirit. I wouldn’t want it any other way.â€
Jane Hoeppner, the wife of Terry Hoeppner, represented Terry at the ceremony and agreed with Roethlisberger.
“Ben said it best,†Hoeppner said. “When I was given the announcement that Terry was going to be put into the Hall of Fame and Ben was going to be put in at the same time, it was perfect. And it was as it should be.â€
