February 9, 2013 - Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Weekend2616 viewsFrom Rick Cassano, Springfield News Sun:
Ben Roethlisberger came home Saturday and brought Terry Hoeppner with him.
Miami University introduced its 2013 Hall of Fame class during the men’s basketball game against Akron at Millett Hall, and Roethlisberger — a two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Pittsburgh Steelers — said he was thrilled to enter the Hall with the late Hoeppner, who recruited and coached him at MU.
“I know he is here in spirit with us,†Roethlisberger said. “Going in with Coach Hep, it couldn’t get any better.â€
Hoeppner, who died of brain cancer in 2007, was represented by his wife Jane on Saturday. She said it was an emotional day that was capped with the induction ceremony.
“When I was given the announcement that Terry was going to be put into the Hall of Fame and Ben at the same time, it was perfect,†Hoeppner said. “It was as it should be.
“Terry was an example of someone who was so good at what he did. He was successful as a coach, but he was also successful at how he lived it out and how he chose to go about his business. He wanted to do it the right way.â€

May 6, 2012 - Graduation Day 2610 viewsIt’s been a big offseason for Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. First he graduated from Miami University, and now he has been selected as one of six individuals to be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame later this year.
Roethlisberger, who played at Miami from 2001-03, holds all of the school’s major passing records, including passing for 200 yards or more in all 14 games in 2003, also an NCAA record for most games in a season passing for 200 yards or more and consecutive 200 yards plus passing games.
What makes the induction really special for Roethlisberger is he is going in the same year as his former coach, the late Terry Hoeppner (photo above). Hoeppner, who died of brain cancer in June, 2007, spent 19 seasons at Miami, and was the head coach during Roethlisberger’s time at the school. Miami had a winning season each of Hoeppner’s six years as the school’s head coach (1999-2004).
“That was the biggest thing for me,†said Roethlisberger of being inducted with Hoeppner. “It’s an honor to go into the Hall of Fame, but to go in with Coach Hoeppner kind of made me tear up a bit and gave me goose bumps. To me that means more than going in myself. It will be an emotional day.â€
