February 5, 2021 - Lil' Fan Friday151 views“I’ll be honest, the look on your face after the playoff game with the Browns broke my heart. It has laid on my heart to share a story with you.
Meet my son Ben….yes named after you. (Quick back story. My brother’s a Bengals fan and he named his youngest Carson, after Carson palmer. I told him one day if I had a little boy I’d name him Ben, after Ben Roethlisberger) So here I have my Ben. Ben was born 17 weeks premature and spent 11 months at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He has cerebral palsy. He uses a wheelchair to get around – which is black and yellow. He uses braces to help him walk. They have the Steelers helmet on them. He uses a communication device. He tells me “Go Steelers †Ben is 9-years old now. We watch football together and he tells me “Browns stink!â€.
I’ve almost lost this boy too many times to count. This past summer we had a trip planned to Kennywood and to come watch a practice. Of course Covid happened so the trip was put on hold. We will get there soon. My son has never given up. As many times as I was told he was going to die and to turn off his machines, I told them it would be him in control of his own destiny. He never gave up.
You control your own destiny. Make this off-season your bit*h, and come back like never before!
I hope to make it to a practice or game soon. I’ll bring my miracle so I can show him also what it looks like to not give up.†— Rebecca.

May 4, 2013 - Sports Vault Shop at King of Prussia Mall1360 views"Hi! I'm Michelle Rebar. I won the Sports Vaults VIP contest. I wanted to share my picture and to say that Ben is a pretty awesome guy. He is super nice and full of smiles. The whole event was fantastic and the people at Sports Vault were great. My son Seth turns two in two weeks. He loved Ben and Ben was so good with him. I can tell he's a great dad. Seth now says that 'Ben Raffaburger is my buddy'. It was an amazing day I will never forget!"

February 9, 2013 - Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Weekend1942 viewsBengals fan and MU alum Dan Plettner not only had the opportunity to attend the Hall of Fame Induction Dinner last Saturday, but also the opportunity to meet and chat with Big Ben.
He was kind enough to share his story with us:
I had a splendid experience at Ben Roethlisberger’s Miami University Hall of Fame Induction Dinner on Saturday evening. Ben was inducted alongside his posthumous coach, Terry Hoeppner. Ben’s emotions and words were a great tribute to Coach Hoeppner.
I had brought a football for which I frankly am still working toward a decent historical knowledge. I went up to Ben shortly before dinner and told him I had something I thought he might like to see. He smiled immediately as he saw the Redhawks logo on the ball’s finish and then he began examining the ball pretty closely.
I am still uncertain whether the football was actually used in practice and/or games… and whether it was definitively ever touched by Ben in 2003, but I loved the ball 10 times more the moment Ben remarked about the ball to the effect, “this ball has a lot of history.†Another former player at the event informed that the ball was a new model/style in ’03.
I enjoyed a normal conversation with “Big Ben†and he seemed to find my challenge of being a proud Miami alum simultaneous with being a Bengals fan pretty humorous. After talking, when I informed him that I’d be honored if he choose to sign the ball he graciously reached for my pen and took his time to choose a place to autograph it. After thanking him, I felt like a little kid and discretely walked the football around the perimeter of the room (rather than taking a direct route back to my table) so as not to “open the floodgates†for others to approach and ask for his autograph just before the dinner commenced.
Later, listening to the speeches from Ben (which truely honored Terry Hoeppner) and Terry’s wife really fully made me appreciate my good fortune for observing a special night in the history at Miami University.
It also helped me to appreciate Ben on a level different from what I’ve seen during his playing career. Ben showcased humor as a nice compliment to heartfelt emotions, even joking about a fictitious “Brian†who had been accidentally introduced (instead of Ben).
Ben, if you ever happen to read this: thank you for helping me to cherish your contribution to Miami University Athletics.
Best Always,
Dan Plettner

June 3, 2013 - The Second Annual Ben Roethlisberger Foundation Invitational992 viewsBen's good friend Chris Hart poses with a smiling volunteer (and very good sport!) whom he accidentally struck in the face with a football chalked with blue during one of the pre-tournament games. The actual object of the Football Drive was to throw the football at the target ON the side or the back of the golf cart...NOT at the person driving the golf cart.
Chris went on to win the Island Green game at the 17th hole during the tournament - not only getting his golf ball on the floating green in the pond, but getting it in the bucket holding the flag.
Now usually the winner is awarded with an all-expenses paid trip for a weekend getaway....however, we think a better idea for Chris may be an all-expenses paid trip to Ben's Kids Football Camp to work on his passing skills.
*Thank you to Chris for sending the photo!
