November 18, 2018: Steelers vs Jaguars579 views“You just grow when you are faced with adversity like this in a hostile environment and you are not playing great and you find ways to get it done. From that standpoint really excited. We have some lessons to learn. You tip your cap to that group, particularly their defense. We got a big play and that got us back into it. I also tip the cap to our defense. They were put in some tough situations. They were out there a lot of snaps. They didn’t blink. They held the fort until our offense got going. Then with No. 7 you have a chance.†— Coach Tomlin.

November 18, 2018: Steelers vs Jaguars481 viewsToday's game reminded me of Coach Hep’s favorite poem, and I thought it was worth sharing once again — Ben.
Don’t Quit!
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but do not quit.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
*The words from Coach Hep’s favorite poem, “Don’t Quitâ€, written long ago by John Greenleaf Whittier, were not recited just to motivate his players before a game – they were a way of life for him. Ben still keeps a copy of that poem taped to his locker.Nov 22, 2018

“I don’t want him to lose confidence in his hands because I’m not losing confidence in him and he’s been great as a receiver for us. You know what, sometimes those things happen, the best in the world drop balls.Nov 22, 2018

“Even when you drop balls I’ve got something to tell you…I said, ‘Last night, my son said for Christmas he wants a Steelers helmet, gloves and a James Conner jersey’, and I said, ‘Obviously my son doesn’t have any hard feelings toward you, so you shouldn’t have them toward yourself!’ He had a good chuckle out of that.â€Nov 22, 2018

Ben's 2018 Veterans Day Salute 412 views...….is to Marine Corps veteran and Steelers fan Greg Yakubik (afterall, it IS the same weekend as the Marine Corps Birthday!):
“I joined the United States Marine Corps on November 7th, 1999 and was sent to Parris Island, South Carolina for basic training. After graduating from basic, I did infantry training in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After my training, I was sent to Camp Pendleton, California for my permanent duty station where I spent 4 years. My unit was sent to Australia to do training with Australian forces, then on to Etajima Island Sasebo, Japan; Nagasaki and Okinawa, Japan. In 2003, my unit was sent into Iraq. We were the first unit to cross the border into Baghdad, which was on St Patrick’s Day. My unit took down Baghdad on April 11th.†-- Greg Yakubik.Nov 11, 2018

"I loved being a Marine & fighting for my country! When I left the Corps, I started working in the Emergency Room at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. I guess protecting others is just a part of who I am, which is why I went on to college for Criminal Justice. I am now a Senior Safety Officer for UPMC’s Western Psychiatric Institute." -- Greg Yakubik.

"I grew up in the Pittsburgh area (and will always live here) and have been a Steelers fan all my life! I was lucky to marry a girl that loves Steelers football just as much as I do, and we never miss a game. We are huge Ben fans in this house since he came into the league. I really enjoy watching him play every game day. I also love the work his foundation does for the police around the country. I have a lot of friends that are cops in the Pittsburgh area, so this really means a great deal to me. My wife and I have tried to do our part for Ben and his foundation over the years – we’ve volunteered at the kids’ camps he holds every summer, and also at his charity golf tournaments. We have even attended his charity events as guests. I’m proud to be a Marine, a Pittsburgh native, and a life-long Steelers fan!†— Greg Yakubik.
*Greg, we are honored to tell your story! Thank you for your service not only in the Corps & around the world, but at home in Pittsburgh as well!
Thank you to ALL of our veterans!! We are truly a blessed Nation to have you keeping us safe! God Bless America!Nov 11, 2018
