KDKA reporter Marty Griffin: "Ben Roethlisberger did something really cool. He said to his people, 'We gotta do this, we gotta do this for this kid.' Then he came back in to the room and said to Ethan that he is going to take him to training camp, he's going to bring him in to the locker room and let him get autographs from Willie Parker, Hines Ward and all the players. And he stepped up big time for little #7."May 22, 2007

Ben Roethlisberger reaches out1581 viewsBen spent some time over the weekend of May 18-20th, 2007 talking to local children about the dangers of drugs at an event called "The Alliance".
He spent two hours at the event, talking to the kids and giving out awards.
Ben had this to say:
"I've never used drugs in my entire life and I'm very proud of that. That's why I'm very happy and anxious and eager to do this, because I wouldn't feel right if I did drugs or do drugs and come here and tell kids NOT to do it. That wouldn't be right for me."May 21, 2007

Ben Roethlisberger reaches out1585 viewsBen spent some time over the weekend of May 18-20th, 2007 talking to local children about the dangers of drugs at an event called "The Alliance".
He spent two hours at the event, talking to the kids and giving out awards.
Words from Ben:
"Luckily, I've never lost any friends because of [drugs]. I do know a lot of people that have done it and cleaned up their act because they've seen the negative effects of it."
As to being around drugs:
"I don't put myself in that situation. If there is something there, wherever it is, I don't go - I leave right away. It 's not just something [where] I'm going to get myself in that situation. Because I don't feel that is being a 'right' role model whether I'm doing it or not, being there if there are drugs there!"May 21, 2007

Ben at the South Fayette School District, May 2, 20072011 viewsBig Ben was the star attraction at a pep rally Wednesday morning in McDonald at the South Fayette School District.
The quarterback's visit was the result of hard work by students, who sold thousands of bottles of Big Ben's Barbeque Sauce. All of the proceeds were split between the South Fayette Athletic Club and the Ronald McDonald House.
"They did a fundraiser that is going to help their school and a great cause -- the Ronald McDonald House -- a cause I put a lot of time and effort into, so I am glad they were able to do such a great job," said Roethlisberger.
"This is so exciting," said Superintendent Dr. Linda Hippert. "We know he is a great role model for our students, and they watch him on TV."
"I think about when I was in high school," said Roethlisberger. "If someone came back to speak, what did I want to hear and not want to hear?"
Students who sold the most sauce got their pictures taken with Roethlisberger, who was sporting a South Fayette Green ball cap.
"It used to surprise me, it doesn't surprise me anymore," said Roethlisberger. "Steeler fans, like I have said numerous times, are the best."
The students raised more than $6,800, which is roughly 4,166 bottles of barbeque sauce.May 02, 2007
